Oubai Shahbandar is a decorated former Defense Intelligence Analyst specializing in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Iraq, Iran, and Syria. He served for 8 years in the Department of Defense, where he was also a foreign affairs specialist in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His prior service included two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an intelligence advisor. In his last deployment to Afghanistan, he served as a senior civilian advisor for Combined Forces Special Operations Command-Afghanistan, working on the critical Village Stability Operations program. In Iraq, he served as a strategic analyst with General Petraeus' Command Group during the 2007 surge.
Currently based in Istanbul, Turkey, Shahbandar is a senior consultant with Qorvis where he has worked on a variety of information operations and communication campaign projects for various high-level clients in the Arabian Gulf. He served as a media advisor for the U.S.-backed Syrian opposition during the 2014 U.N. hosted peace talks in Geneva.
