The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), is the official ruling body of the Kurdistan Region in Northern Iraq. The KRG consists of a unicameral parliament with 111 seats known as the Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament (IKP). The Kurdistan Region of Iraq comprises the three northern provinces of Iraq (Dohuk, Erbil and Sulaimani) and parts of the Kirkuk, Neinevah and Diyala provinces. The Kurds are staunch allies of the United States and have had a semi-autonomous region since 1991. Kurdistan is one of oldest settled regions of the world, located in one of the world's most important crossroads. Many historians and scientists believe that Kurdistan is where humans first domesticated animals and planted crops.
